History
Born and raised in suburban L.A., Miya started acting as a child. Her first role in Hollywood was in “J-Horror” with Marlon Brando in the 1990s. However after her father passed away, Miya was forced, by her mother, to focus more on her studies and eventually graduate from the University of California at Berkeley.
At Berkeley, Miya began working with fellow Berkeley alum and director Richard Kelly, whom she had met on Berkeley’s legendary theatre group, The Berkeley Players. In 1998, Miya completed a two-year acting program with Kelly at Berkeley.
In 1999, before her film career began, she met John Milius. When Miya left California, Milius suggested to her to move and found her a job in New York City. She went to Hollywood and joined DiCaprio in the film “I Am Love”.[1]
In the film, she played the mother of a 15-year-old boy who is having an affair with a schoolteacher (Julianne Moore). They would travel to Los Angeles for the summer, to start a family. A month after the start of filming, the relationship between them fell apart, but that night, after taking a taxi home, Julianne Moore was murdered.
In 2004, she appeared in a commercial for Visa with Milius. [2]
